December 1st, 2009 by bernadette. Posted in Assignment 3, Assignments and Assessments | No Comments »

Now that you’ve found the Network@HarrisBromly site you need to know about how to use it.

Here are the Steps you need to take:

  1. Sign up – MAKE SURE you tick the Certificate IV in Frontline Management Group option & upload your avatar  – watch the screencast to see how.
  2. Once you are signed up you will receive an email which asks you to verify your email address. If you haven’t received one fairly soon after you sign up check your Junk Mail folder.
  3. After this you need to wait to be approved by the site administrator – mmmm, guess who?
  4. Then you’re ready to go!

Project 3 Reflections

Certificate IV in Frontline Management - Tracie Scarfone – Project 3 – Reflection

Having watched the vodcasts regarding leadership and conducted my own interviews the following are my thoughts regarding how the processes could support team and individual learning in my workplace and the role of team leader.

As part of our learning I found watching the videos regarding leadership an excellent alternative to reading printed information.   These days there is so much information we are expcted to take in  – reading it all is very difficult and it is possible that the points the writer considers the most important are misinterpreted or not taken in at all.    Using mediacasts provides variety in delivery of information, feels more personal and allows “light and shade” to the information and emphasis on specific points.

For a Manager responsible for learning in the workplace delivering information using a combination of  traditional printed media, internet, ipods, blackberries etc can also allow individuals to use the media that best suits them at times that suit them.   For example I could have an interview running on my computer at home and be watching and listening at the same time as cooking dinner and washing dishes!     It is important however to keep in mind that there are those in the workplace that still struggle with, or don’t appreciate, advances in technology and that “technology” often lets us down with system crashes, lack of speed and other issues so it is important that it is just one of the options – not the only one.

I can see great benefit also in using media casting in group situations.  For example in our branch there are many isolated small teams around the state – watching a video interview or presentation from a Manager  together via the internet as small groups would allow delivery of information in a more direct, almost personal, way and subsequent discussion within the small groups.    Seeing videos would also help in having staff feel more in touch with Managers and allow the personality of Managers to show.

As a Manager, for my team to be able to learn in the way they are most comfortable with and get the most out of and feel part of the team is vital.   All of the above points show that using mediacasting can support this very effectively.

I have interviewed two staff members from NSW Office of Water and video-ed their interviews:

Garry Hodson, Executive Director Licensing and Compliance

Q1.  In what way is leadership different in Public Sector organisations?

Q2.  What can frontline managers do to promote team effectiveness in geographically dispersed teams?

Andrew Windever, manager HR Projects

I have attached my reflection however am having some difficulty attaching the interviews.  I am working on this.

Danielle
